Day 1: Arrival in Kigali
Your guide/driver will gladly welcome you to Rwanda upon arrival at Kanombe airport and will drive you to your hotel and check in. Depending on your arrival time, you may have a welcome trip around Kigali, Gisozi genocide center and return later to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Kigali to Nyungwe Forest National Park
After an early charming breakfast at the lodge, after you will embark on a journey down south with your tour guide to Nyungwe National Park. You will have a stop-off at Nyanza palace which was a traditional home for Rwanda’s former kings in the past. We will also have a lunch break and proceed to Nyungwe Forest National Park. Check in at the Lodge for your Dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Chimpanzee Tracking & Canopy Walk
Wake up early in the morning and head to the park headquarters for briefing at 6:00am with your lunch packed before you set out to track the Chimps in Nyungwe forest. You will have an opportunity to see other primates and many birds as you follow the chimpanzee trail. This could take you 2 or more hours to find the chimps and once you find them, you will be allowed to spend one full hour learning about their way of life. you will then go for a nature walk to see the twin lakes for another breathtaking experience spotting different wildlife species of birds and other animals there. Dinner and overnight in the park.
Day 4: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Drive off early in the morning after breakfast to Volcanoes National Park. Enjoy the beautiful scenery of Lake Kivu as you take pictures of this beautiful area. Have lunch en route and proceed with our journey to the home of Mountain Gorillas in Rwanda. You will arrive in the evening hours check in the lodge, relax. Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.
Day 5: Gorilla trekking and departure
Have an early breakfast and head to the park headquarters at Kinigi for registration and briefing about gorillas. Hiking through the jungle begins at about 8:00am and some level of fitness is required as you track the gorillas. The tracking takes about 2 to 6 hours since the gorillas keep moving to areas with plenty of food for them to eat for the day. You spend only one hour in the presence of the gorillas as mothers take care of the young ones, juveniles playing, resting and the silverback looking over the family. You will later return to the headquarters for your tracking certificate and drive back to Kigali for your flight.
