7 days’ double gorilla tracking gives you more insight on the nature of these forest giants in their natural habitat in Bwindi forest. You will also have a chance to see these shy golden monkeys in Rwanda before you cross to Uganda.
Day 1: Arrival and transfer to the Volcanoes National park
Upon your arrival in Kigali, you will be welcomed by our representative who will be your safari guide/driver and brief you through your safari program. You will have a city tour around Kigali visiting the Gisozi Genocide memorial, you will then drive to Volcanoes national park in the north of Rwanda, arriving in the evening and check in to the lodge for dinner and overnight silverback lodge.
Day 2: Golden monkeys Trekking in Volcanoes National Park.
After a delicious breakfast at the lodge, you will head to the park headquarters in Kinigi for a briefing by the park wardens. You will head for Golden monkeys trekking in their natural home in the forest. Just like Gorilla trekking, this activity may take unpredictable hours depending on the movement of these shy primates on the previous and that particular day. After trekking, we will return to your hotel and check out and cross to Uganda through Kinigi boarder or Gatuna depending on the Gorilla family to be tracked. You will arrive in the evening hours and check in the lodge for dinner and night stay silverback lodge.
Day 3: Gorilla Tracking Bwindi NP
After a nice morning breakfast, we will head to the park headquarters for briefing on the conduct during Gorilla tracking activity. Your encounter with a mature silverback is the greatest highlight of this trip. You will go through thick forest of Bwindi until you reach the gorilla family to spend a full hour with them learning about their way of life in the forest. Gorilla trekking can take 2 to 8 hours depending on the movement of these apes which is mostly determined by food availability in the forest. You will later return and retire to your hotel for dinner and overnight at silverback lodge.
Day 4: Gorilla tracking on a different Gorilla family
After an early morning breakfast, you will again transfer to the park headquarters for briefing and allocation of gorilla families to track with other guests. You will be split in groups of 8 people and soon start tracking the gorillas in their natural habitat. Trekking a different gorilla family is an experience on its own. You will later return to the park headquarters for your tracking certificate and go for community walk to have an encounter with the pygmy’s people. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight silverback lodge.
Day 5: Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi (Canoe/boat cruise, bird watching & community walks)
Have an early delicious breakfast, and go visit the Abaheesi and Batwa communities to interact and have a good time learning their ways of life and how they live their live. Have lunch at the resort and in the evening hours have cycling around the area on the rolling hills around the lake for better views of this small lake in the middle of high hills. Return to the lodge, have dinner and overnight.
Day 6: Canoeing at lake Bunyonyi
Early breakfast before starting the morning a boat cruise on the lake for a chance to watch various birds, beautiful landscape including some of the 29 islands. This boat ride allows you to explore the many different islands on the lake. You will later return to the lodge for your late lunch and relax (Swimming in the lake) as you prepare to end your trip and leave the next day.
Day 7: Return to Kigali
After the morning breakfast you will drive off to Kigali through Kabale town. Enjoy the rolling and terraced hills of the Bunyonyi area as you depart.
